Officers responding to the 200 block of Grove Avenue in Cheltenham found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds around 3 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, local police said.

The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

Witnesses apparently told police that the victim confronted a group of masked men who were breaking into his car in front of his home.

"A struggle ensued and one of the males stabbed the victim multiple times," police said.

During the struggle, the victim was able to remove one of the men's masks, officers said. That suspect was described as a Hispanic man standing 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing between 170 to 180 pounds.

He has dark curly hair and wears glasses, police added. There was no information about the other men.

Anyone with surveillance video of the area or other information is urged to contact Cheltenham Detectives at 215-885-1600 x499 or policetips@cheltenham-township.org.
